Output 01: Best practice examples (Lithuania)

My name is Fausta. I am 32 years old. Back in 2010 I completed a bachelor’s degree in general practice nursing. However, I have not had a job, because I became a mum and dedicated my time to bring up my daughter.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO TAKE PART IN THIS PROJECT?

Even though I am a single mother, I wish what’s best for my daughter and therefore, I want to get back into the job market. I have never thought that getting a job would be so difficult. Being a part of this project made me realise that I lack knowledge about the current job market requirements, don’t have any confidence in myself, what’s more, I don’t really know what I would like to do for a job. Here, talking to other participants and staff, I have realized that I have some things to offer to potential employers, and started to want more for myself and my daughter.

WHY DO YOU THINK PEOPLE NEED TRAINING LIKE THIS?

In my opinion, people need training like this because we acquire new skills and experience, get to know new things. Participants learn how to express themselves, meet new people, communicate. I am very happy to be a part of this project, I feel that I have gained more self-confidence, learned new things, met many interesting people. Even though I have not found a job yet, I feel bolder and no longer afraid to make phone calls to potential employers, ask about the job positions they have to offer, talk about myself, and prove that I would be a good asset to their companies. I believe that I will eventually find a job, as taking part in this project I have found more motivation. Since I don’t yet know for sure what job I would like to do, I am open to new challenges and decided to take some mini online courses. I feel I am starting to find myself again, I fill my free time with productive activities that I enjoy.

TELL US MORE ABOUT THE COURSE YOU’RE DOING

I have started a digital marketing course online. The course is very different from my original degree, but I have to expand my knowledge and I think that the course will come in handy in my future career. I am so pleased I can learn independently, and I am not squeezed into a time frame and I can choose suitable times for my studies. I am confident I will complete the course. I have surprised myself with my knowledge of the English language, as I have never thought I would ever be able to study anything in a foreign language.

HAVE YOU EVER TAKEN PART IN SOME OTHER PROJECT?

This is the first project I took part in. I have never heard of such projects before.

WHAT DO YOU THINK STANDS IN A WAY FOR ADULTS TO START ANY KIND OF TRAINING?

In my opinion, money, possibly lack of motivation, family relationships and fears are the main barriers to start training. When you get to a certain age, there are additional responsibilities, such as children, finances, and I think that it is hard for adults to find time for themselves and training. Therefore, personal growth becomes a secondary priority.

WHY DO YOU THINK IT IS HARD TO FIND A JOB?

Every person has different circumstances. In my case, finding a job is hard, because I am a single mother. The working hours are very important for me. I cannot do shifts. My profession, however, requires that. If I gained a job as a nurse tomorrow, I doubt I would stay in employment for long, because due to childcare responsibilities I wouldn’t be able to be at work on time. Taking part in this project has helped me gain more self-confidence, I am constantly learning new things, and slowly finding myself.
